About Us
fasd is A club established in 1906
Performances are typically held three times per year in the Fall, Winter and Spring. These include opportunities for artists to exhibit their creations in the Founders Room of the upper level of the Players Playhouse. Unlike community theaters, tickets are not sold. Instead, members invite guests, who pay a small fee to attend performances in a historic, intimate and eclectic setting where they enjoy a unique "bring your own dinner" theater social experience.
Annual membership includes attendance to all performances. Revenue is generated from donations and guest fees which help to pay for production costs and other suppported events. FASD is led by a Board of Directors and members have an oppportunity to participate in many different types of committees.
Membership
We invite members to participate in our productions in a variety of ways. No previous experience is necessary. One can discover and celebrate his/her love of theater by taking part in a production committee, or a role in a play or simply by attending the production. Often our members are involved in elements of a play for the first time in their lives. They are not looking to punch their ticket to Broadway, but find satisfaction, peace and pride in their work.
In many ways, FASD is a social club committed to creativity and the arts. Members become trusted, lifelong friends and connect in a journey of creating something beautiful and long-lasting.
Individuals often join because of the impact the Society has had on their spouse, close friends or co-workers. Members are often community leaders who admire and enjoy spending time with each other. They experience activities that would be impossible to find anywhere else.
Scholarship
The Fine Arts Society of Detroit has established a single annual scholarship for a full time undergraduate Junior or Senior student majoring in acting, directing or music at Wayne State University, College of Fine, Performing and Communicative Arts.
